The Welch Resort -

A Hidden Treasure of Boulder County

"The Welch Resort - A Hidden Treasure of Boulder County"

by Denise V. Berg

This is a tale long overdue abut William (Billy) A. Welch and Sarah Welch. they started the Welch Resort in 1893 in Boulder County and operated it until 1937. then the resort changed hands many times, was split up and now mostly is private properties. Shelly's Cottages is the only part that remains a resort.

Many famous people stayed in the resort including F. O. Stanley on his first trip in his Stanley Steamer; Teddy Roosevelt around 1916, and Al Capone and gang around 1928.

Billy was the son of Aristides Welch of Pennsylvania who was a famous race horse breeder and a signer of the bond to release Jefferson Davis after the Civil War.

So come take a tour of the resort - past and present - to see where you end up.

The book may be available for $14.95 at the Lyons Museum, Longmont Museum, Boulder History Museum, Red Canyon Art in Lyons, Shelly's Cottages, Amazon.com and from the author.
